What is a Cultural
Resource?
A cultural
resource is something or someone that contributes to or has contributed to
the cultural heritage of the Western Maine Lakes Region. This includes:
For
example, woodworkers, painters, photographers, writers, potters,
musicians, storytellers, mimes, weavers, spinners, sculptors,
designers, clowns, singers, composers, quilters, etc.
These
could be locally organized bands or activities at the community
center or grange, for example.
Historical societies, libraries, land trusts, etc.
Theater
groups, dance troupes, garden clubs, chorales, folk singers/dancers,
etc.
Businesses that either use a traditional method of production and/or
reflect a traditional or unique occupation in our area such as
Christmas trees, maple syrup, cut stone artisans, wine makers, chain
saw sculptors, etc.
These can
be historic structures or structures associated with significant
cultural events such as the Narramissic Farm in South Bridgton and
Dancemore Hall in Baldwin.
